Instead of seeking deal flow, play an active role in the earliest steps of idea / MVP creation. 

Would scientists / technologists make good venture capitalists when launching hard science start-ups?
Why not have the R&D scientists also be the company investors? The sales team should interact with the R&D team from day 1.

Develop proof of concept validation first, and then build a team around the technology. Start with a semi-validated idea ... less risk to investors and the core team who is putting in sweat equity.

​Admit we don't have all, and won't reasonably have, most solutions. As such, it's imperative to collaborate with like-minded individuals on a global scale. National borders or belonging to the same "club / group" should offer no advantage.

Make core employees owners to maximize ROI and properly distribute wealth created from successful projects. The connection between contribution and reward must be transparent.
